Which is larger: the estimated number of trees on Earth, or stars in the Milky Way?

The answer

A 2015 Nature study put Earth's tree count at about 3.04 trillion. The Milky Way is usually estimated at 100–400 billion stars. Even on the high end for stars, the trees win by a wide margin. The same study estimated we've cut the planet's trees by roughly half since civilization began.
